South Florida swim school urges teaching children water safety after 2 near drownings in Fort Lauderdale

A South Florida swim school is urging water safety after two small children nearly drowned in Fort Lauderdale this weekend. Both incidents involved kids under three, and both needed CPR. Parents and swimming instructors told CBS News Miami that getting children at ease in the water at an early age can be a big benefit. Daniela Egues wanted her daughter Emilia to learn the ways of the water as early as possible. "We started the moment that she was able to get into classes like this, so she's been in swimming classes since six months," Egues said. She wants her daughter to get comfortable in the water before she learns how to swim on her own. "Get her accustomed to the water and respect the water, understand her limits, [and] respect the boundaries," Egues said. Egues was at a Sunday swim lesson at OcaQuatics, where they are urging swimming safety after two children under three years old both had to be saved from pools on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale. The first incident involved a two-year-old saved from the pool at the Sheraton Hotel, and another incident involved a one-year-old found at a pool at the corner of Northeast 35th Court and Bay View Drive. Both children needed CPR and were taken to Broward Health. Officials haven't said if foul play or negligence played a role in the near drownings. Florida is often one of the nation's leaders in child drowning deaths. And the CDC found that drowning is the leading cause of death for children in the age range of one to four. OcaQuatics founder Miren Oca told CBS News Miami that children under three can still learn self-saving skills. "They know how to hold their breath if they were to fall in the water, they know how to return to the side of the pool," Oca said. "If they turn around and grab the wall instead of swimming out to the middle. And we also work on back floating as a skill. Children under three can totally do that." Oca said that it's still vital to have someone nearby to supervise toddlers or infants in the water. "Arms' length away is what we like to say because you never know what they're going to do," Oca said. "You never know when they're gonna choose to jump into the pool." Oca also teaches older children how to help save someone in the water from the side. As for the near drownings, officials haven't given any updates on the conditions of the two children saved from the pools.

Swimsuit-clad Dee Devlin cosies up to her fiancé Conor McGregor on lavish family holiday amid 'cheating' scandal and 'nudes' claims

Conor McGregor and his fiancée Dee Devlin looked as loved-up as ever as they enjoyed a family holiday together this week - despite his alleged cheating scandal. The Irish MMA fighter, 37, was embroiled in controversy recently when he was photographed kissing a mystery brunette woman on a beach in Fort Lauderdale. With his partner Dee - whom he shares four children with and has been engaged to since 2020 - nowhere in sight, questions were raised about their relationship. Rapper Azealia Banks then added to the furore as she took to X - formerly known as Twitter - to accuse Conor of sexual harassment. Azealia, 34, recently shared nude photos which purported to show Conor, which she claimed he sent to her unprompted. Amid the backlash, Conor and Dee have shrugged off the criticism, continuing to display their affection for each other in her latest post while in Sardinia. One snap saw her showing off her figure in a patterned swimsuit as they cosied up on the beach, while others saw them dressed up ready for dinner and cocktails. She also shared sweet snaps of their children on a luxury yacht and Conor posing with some fans on the Italian island. The couple have been enjoying time in Sardinia together to celebrate Conor's 37th birthday - which was on July 14. Dee shared a gushing tribute to Conor on the day and they have both been posting loved-up content to social media in the days since while enjoying their trip. Their united display comes after concerns when Conor was seen smooching a mystery brunette in full view of fellow beachgoers in Fort Lauderdale. Conor was spotted enjoying a cold beverage while the woman, who was dressed in a leopard print bikini, shared his sun lounger. The pair chatted away in the shade as the sportsman cosied up to her by wrapping his arm around her back. Dee - with whom he shares children, daughter Croia, five, and sons Conor Jr, eight, Rian, three and Mack, 19 months, with - was nowhere in sight. However, Dee brushed off the scandal as she simply posted a loving tribute to Conor to her Instagram page soon after. Dee shared a post from a fan account on her Instagram story which read: 'Happy Birthday to the person who always keeps Dee entertained and makes her smile.' Just hours later, Azealia set the internet ablaze after sharing alleged nude photos of Conor that she claims the disgraced star sent unprompted. She accused Conor of sexual harassment when she shared nude photographs purporting to show the MMA star. 'How you gonna send a b**** a some crooked d*** pics then threaten her not to tell,' she wrote alongside the screenshots. '@TheNotoriousMMA n**** do you know who the f*** I am? This is HARAM.' Azealia continued: 'Like how are you really going to sexually harrass me with the potato farmer d*** then threaten me not to tell???? Honey…… ain't u trying to be the president of Ireland what is it giving fam? Use some f***ing sunscreen damn.' As well as the alleged nude selfies, the screenshots also showed a message from what purported to be Conor's account reading: 'Don't be a rat cos all rats get caught.' Alongside one image which seemingly shows his manhood strapped to a dumbbell, the Irish fighter apparently wrote: 'Lifting weights.' Azealia shared another screenshot of the alleged pictures suddenly being 'hidden' on X because she does not follow Conor's account. Although it is unclear if he had anything to do with that alleged change, she commented: 'The motherf***er woke up early LOL.' reached out to the last-known attorneys on record for Conor, his agent and Azealia's agent for comment at the time. It is the latest embarrassment to hit the sportsman's relationship with his partner Dee, who was ever-present by his side throughout his sexual assault court case last year. In 2024, Conor lost a civil case as jurors at the High Court in Dublin found him liable of raping Nikita Hand, 35, in a Dublin hotel on December 9, 2018, with the judge awarding Hand €250,000 in damages. But despite the verdict, Dee emphatically made it clear that she intended to back Conor - attacking Nikita in a series of posts on Instagram at the time. In the posts, she wrote: 'Conor and I dealt with these issues privately many years ago, as should be done in a relationship and we have come out stronger than ever. 'We have four beautiful children now whose smiling faces and happy hearts are a testament to who he is and who we are!' The pair have been together for 15 years and got engaged in August 2020 after Conor proposed while they were celebrating his birthday. The couple met as teenagers at a nightclub in 2008 and Dee has been a key player in the MMA star's story, supporting him when he was jobless and focused on making it as a professional fighter.
